To celebrate I’ll be hanging out and spinning records all day from 11:30 am until 7 pm. So it sure seems like a long time comin’ (at least to me) but it’s all systems go! The Grand Opening ribbon cutting ceremony with Mayor Elizabeth Goreham will take place this Saturday April 14th at 10AM at the Humes Alley entrance around the corner from our 133 East Beaver Ave. entrance (pictured). The store looks fantastic and I don’t think anyone will miss the old location. I’ll get some photos up on my website in the next day or two when I’m totally set up.
I plan on being at the store all day on Saturday the 14th and through the opening weeks of business. I look forward to meeting customers old & new. We have lots of great new titles in stock including entire catalogues or close to entire catalogues of many artists like The Beatles, The Band, David Bowie, The Clash, The Doors, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Billie Holiday, King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, REM, Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, U2, The Who, Neil Young and Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention!
SO COME EARLY FOR THE BEST SELECTION!

So as David Carradine aka Kung Fu used to say - “One Step at a Time Grasshopper”. And so we’re following that advice and moving along one step at a time, going forward to our goal of April 14th.
Check out our new signs. Mine are in the doorway ay 133 E. Beaver Ave. (next to Uncle Eli’s) and Webster’s is hanging directly above. Great job by Curtis Signs! We’ve moved in our bins and some of our records and should have most moved in by next week. The store is looking great!
I’m happy to announce the reopening of Stax of Trax Records. We’re hoping for a grand opening on Saturday April 14th. We’ll again be featuring the finest selection of quality vintage vinyl in Central Pennsylvania. We’ll have tons of great recent additions ready for sale so you’ll want to be there early!

Sad to announce the passing of another musical friend, saxophonist Dave Sholl. Dave was a member of Barrence Whitfield’s legendary band The Savages. In the 80’s and early 90’s Barrence Whitfield & The Savages were absolutely THE greatest live band and Dave was a huge part of their sound. Every performance was always over the top fun. I will never forget our great times together. We will all miss him as a musician and friend.
It was a really bad week for saxophonists as we also lost one of Jazz music’s most forward thinking composers & multi instrumentalists Sam Rivers at the ripe age of 88. Check out his incredible recordings on the Blue Note label.

I have just learned of the passing of one of my all-time favorite musicians, drummer Lloyd Knibb of the legendary Jamaican band The Skatalites. Lloyd Knibb was one of the most powerful & influential drummers in all of music history, let alone Jamaican music. He ranks with the best, Rock’s Keith Moon, Funk’s Zigaboo Modeliste (The Meters) and Jazz’ Elvin Jones & Max Roach.
Lloyd Knibb was there at the inception of Jamaican Ska music in 1965 with the formation of The Skatalites. Although they only lasted a short time they influenced all the Jamaican music that followed. They reformed in the 80’s and toured the world. I had the opportunity to see them quite a few times and the honor of hanging out w/ them a number of times. They were incredibly gracious to all their fans and I have some great memories of my conversations w/ Mr Knibb. Luckily I had my final chance to see the man perform with The Skatalites in Ithaca in March as we drove through a snowstorm to get to see them.
So slap on a Skatalites record and wait for those driving Lloyd Knibb drum fills to kick in and make you jump up and dance the Ska!!
